The Royal Business College Diploma in Information Technology (Level-7) has 5 components and a research project embedded in the structure; that prepare students to enter a career as an IT professional. It is ideally suited to people with an understanding of business who are already graduates, not necessarily in IT and who want to move into an IT career. The learning focuses on system development and support and includes identification of the business goals of an organization and translating of these requirements into a workable technological solution. To get ahead in today's IT world, students have to be competent in a wide range of IT skills; participation in this Diploma course will allow the learner to develop a thorough understanding of the IT world, computer support, software design. Successful completion of the Diploma in IT will equip students with the skills to reach their career goals.  Some may want to move to specialty studies. The minimum time allowed for course completion is 42 weeks and the maximum time is one year. Student work is assessed by means of tests, research assignments and team based project work. Much student work involves applying course concepts in actual business case studies

Qualification

On successful of completion of the programme, student will receive RBC Diploma in Information Technology Level 7 and student will have gained fundamental knowledge of Data Communication and Computer NetworksSoftware Programming Software Project Engineering and ManagementDatabase Management SystemsComputer Hardware Concepts and Research and Hands on Project.  

Course Structure

The course is a full time 42 weeks programme, completed over two semesters of 21 weeks each. The curriculum includes 5 components and a research project. All components (modules) must be completed to the required standard to achieve the qualification. 

There will be 130 credits assessed following the learning.  This equates to one full time academic year of study. Students must commit to 1300 hours of learning with a two week break at the end of each 21-week semester.  

Career Paths

RBC Diploma in Information Technology (Level-7) learning includes how to provide administration and ongoing support of Information Technology infrastructure in a range of business, government and research organizations.

On completion of this qualification graduates will be able to demonstrate higher level skills and knowledge relating to employment in the IT industry.  The course covers a diverse range of IT skills with emphasis on system development and support e.g. network administration and software development/programming.  Graduates will have developed the confidence and professionalism to apply for any of the following career opportunities:

  • Desktop support technician
  • Help desk technician
  • Network administrator
  • Network Maintenance Engineer / Field Engineer
  • Network technician
  • Network Design Professional
  • Software developer / programmer
  • Database Programmer / Administrator
  • Database Designer
  • Computer Maintenance Engine

Entry Requirements

The academic entry requirement is a Degree in Engineering or Science or a National Diploma in Computing Level-6 or equivalent overseas qualification.   

English Language Requirements

Students who do not have English as a first language will need to show that they are capable of successfully completing the course by meeting at least one of the following entry conditions:

  • An IELTS score of 6.0 (general or academic) or
  • Passing the Royal Business College English Test
